DJ vs DJ Equipment Digital crate digging
Stereotypes abound, for anyone who has caught the wonderful series Nathan Barley by Chris Morris the world of cringeworthy Hoxton elite sums of DJ culture in a single no. It's not just the DJ and his team, is the hanger, hair, the pseudo cool crowd howl of a melody that is so left field that are all in danger of being lost in the deep forest of cacophony. Contrary to popular belief, there is more to being a DJ that only looking cool in a pair of headphones. Unfortunately for some that's all they think they have to be a DJ.
Back in the day, as many of my friends are vinyl like to say, being a spinner of tunes had the skill, dedication and commitment. It was a state reserved for music geeks. Being so into the scene meant a life of dedication to music, not just a passing interest in the latest pop sensation. The disc jockey normally get out of bed around noon, going to dig up the coffin of the shops closed and then proceed to either travel to a concert and go to bed around 6 am, stay and mix until almost all at the same time.
The art of digging box is similar to grandmothers at a flea market in search of a Fabergé egg. dusty rooms stacked to the ceiling of each record of a white label LP Stones undiscovered for the purposes of the BBC sound, but who knows what is where. Some classics are waiting to be discovered, a bit strange half go four tracks on side B of the 1950s an unknown singer can make the top switch next ten hits, and the only way to find is digging through those boxes. Since the fall of the popularity of vinyl as the essential DJ tool, the art of digging box is becoming a dying pastime for all but the most dedicated. Bedroom music teachers probably do not even know it, you probably do not even have a record.
The Vinyl disappearance has meant a change in technology, has been a drop in demand for analog plates and an increase in demand for digital DJ equipment. Anxious differentiate from the iPod generation you just connect a player and press the shuffle button, established and talented team are asking DJs date; MP3 and compact disc half is creating a need for players who can mix items such as old dishes. There is no doubt that not having to carry a suitcase Travel with a hundred records on a positive thing, especially if the option is to bring about a relatively lightweight piece of equipment that can subsequently mixed.
Back to the stereotype of Hoxton massive "and would argue that these guys are really pioneers in the new digital music scene. Creating the depths crazy loops of imagination that are inspired by a pair of hair straighteners last minute, or not being able to fit in tight jeans past could be the big new thing. Perhaps these guys are up in a box seekers who have been accused of stealing other people's work alone and join all the fancy equipment. Perhaps a good pair of headphones and a love popular fashion are just what the music industry has to put it into XXI century.
