Better Than Ezra
Current members
Besides vocals, chief songwriter and guitarist Kevin Griffin of Monroe, Louisiana, the current members others of Better Than Ezra in February 2009 are the group's bassist and vocalist Tom Drummond and drummer Michael Jerome, who joined the band in 2009. History
Formation and first successes
Better Than Ezra was formed in 1988 by its four original members – vocalist and guitarist Kevin Griffin, Joel Rundell, guitarist, bassist Tom Drummond and drummer, Cary Bonnecaze. The four members were attending Louisiana State University at the time of training better than Ezra. His first practice was also held in 1988, shortly after the formation of the band. Better Than Ezra's first public performance was at a bar in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, also in 1988. Although many theories abound, the band refuses to disclose the origin of its name. The group's fans often refer to themselves as Ezralites.
Better Than Ezra issued a cassette tape demonstration later in 1988, Bell Street Demo. While not an official version, this demo is wanted by the band fans, and traded by collectors. In 1989 the band released a cassette-only album, Surprise.
Joel Rundell, guitarist, committed suicide on August 8, 1990. The other three members the band took some time to reassess his future after the death of Rundell. However, Griffin, Drummond and Bonnecaze meet as a trio Better Than Ezra at the end of 1990. The trio continued to play house parties and shows the fraternity through the South during the 1990s.
The band released their first nationally distributed album Deluxe in 1993 in his own independent label, records of waves, which caught the attention of major record labels and radio. Better Than Ezra signed with Elektra Records 1995. Elektra Deluxe Records rereleased in 1995 and the single, "Good", reached # 1 on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks, which helped boost the album platinum disk record the end of 1995. Deluxe ultimately became a multi-platinum album, which features the sales of two million or more units.

1996 – 2000
After major label release deluxe, original drummer Cary Bonnecaze left the band in 1996. Better Than Ezra released their second major label album, friction, Baby, in 1996 through Elektra Records. Friction, Baby produced the hits "Desperately Wanting" and "King of New Orleans." Their second release was not as commercially successful as Deluxe, but the album was certified gold by the RIAA for sales over 500,000 units.
The trio began working in its third major release, how does your garden grow?, shortly after the end of the tour Friction, Baby. The album was recorded between mid-January and late April-in a studio in New Orleans. The album was produced by record producer Malcolm Burn, and released on August 25, 1998. The album's sound was described 'experimental' and a significant departure from her previous two albums. Griffin described the album in 1998 as "the rhythm guitar driven …." Similarly, Tom Drummond described the thinking of the band on their third major album, "we think the third album was a very important record, because it usually makes a band or breaks in the third disk. The single debuted at the stars, and reached peak at number 78 on the Billboard Hot 100. The band was released by Elektra Records after the publication of How Does Your Garden Grow? in 1999.
Later versions of the album include Better Than Ezra Closer, (Beyond Records, 2001), Before the Robots (Artemis Records, 2005) and Rule of paper.
2000 – 2008
The band released the B-Sides and rarities collection Artifakt on their own "Ezra Dry Goods & Fudge" label in 2000. Artifakt was only sold online. Tom Drummond, bassist, in 2002 noted, 'It's basically a full album of rarities.
Better Than Ezra, now no longer with Elektra Records, signed with the label Beyond Records and began working on new material. Drummond said the rationale for choosing a smaller label, "We decided we wanted to be big fish in a small pond rather than a small fish in a big pond. I just wanted to be with a label that wanted success as much as we did. "
Griffin, Drummond and McNabb spent 18 months working on Closer, his next album of 1998 How Your Garden Grow? and their first new material since falling by Elektra Records. The album was recorded in New Orleans in the band's own studio, allowing members to focus on creating music instead of the rental costs per day. Closer was mixed in Los Angeles by Better Than Ezra and the album producer Brad Wood. However, the group found some clues needed scratching. management company recommended producer Brad Wood DJ Swamp, who previously Beck had worked with, to mix multiple tracks. Using a DJ for two of the songs on the album's first single "Extra Ordinary" and "Recognize" marked a departure for the band, which had not previously employed a DJ before.

A large collection of successes was released on March 15, 2005 through Rhino Entertainment, a division of Warner Music Group.
Better than the sixth studio album titled Ezra before the Robots (Artemis Records), was released on May 31, 2005. In 2005, the creator of Desperate Housewives, Marc Cherry used the band's song "Juicy" as background music for the second season of the series promos, Griffin, who credited with bringing to the attention of the album. The song "Juicy" also played in the background in commercials for Applebee's restaurants.
2009-2010
It has long left Travis McNabb Better Than Ezra in February 2009 and his last appearance together was family Gras in Metairie, Louisiana.
