I'm about to take the Wilton Cake Decorating course Joanns. Any suggestions?

I'm taking the course in March and all brand products Wilton are so expensive. I'm looking at probably $ 100 just to start the course. Any tips to save money? I've bought the student kit for $ 25 and does not include everything on the list of supply. It seems like the class is a good way to Joanns, Hobby Lobby, etc to make some money! I'm trying to buy most supplies at WalMart but the selection is limited. Here are just a few of the supplies needed: 8 ct ice color set of 15 "parchment paper triangles together cut cake and turn cake leveler pen rotary tool caddy bags disposable bags and the list goes on ….

I took all kinds of Wilton and loved! Now cake decorating in my spare time. Some things I did to save money: Do not bother to get the parchment paper triangles. Unless you are very old school never be used. The advice that you can cut cardboard cake if you have good size boxes available. I did not have a turntable up to several months after class. you can get away without it, but makes things much easier! The cake leveler is a life saver! The shopping cart tool that you can use a new front box instead. Disposable bags are what I use for regular icing. I use the bags when I'm featherweight piping chocolate (bags pen is thicker and the chocolate is kept cooler and therefore more rigid for your application.) Hopefully you have a teacher like I did, who gave us advice on how to spend less at least until you know who wants to invest in more things. Have a good time! The classes were a real blast and helped me learn the basics!
