POLL: What is the point of having radio DJs if most of what they do is a game of a set list of songs?
Ok I know you have a point, cuz someone has to press play and give comments and stuff like that. However, if you think about it, there is little sense. I mean, the head honcho at the station decide what work based on popularity, and has been given little flexibility to choose their own songs. With all the technology, someone could create a program only a disk to play the songs … hahaha I think having to play a set list of songs (especially if the same set of pop songs playing over and over again), would very old and boring for the DJ and would take half the fun of work. I know that you need to add humor and variety, but not boring work, with little variety the music itself?
In fact most of the songs performed by a radio dj request of the people through text, phone, or email. Sometimes there are also interviews with local groups so people can hear some new songs never before. They have games like The Last game of the points where people have to send a song that begins with the last letter of a previous song. They have to impose fines and other benefits to Listers, and spread the word of upcoming concerts. Actually not much.
