Digital killed the DJ wedding
This article has been motivated by one that appeared in The Times Online for some time. The article refers to how some couples are using iPods to deliver your wedding reception music instead of hiring a DJ, although this could also apply to any other event. This may seem like a good idea of saving money, but lets take a closer look at what it means in reality.
I agree that couples could save money on hiring a DJ, but, and is a big BUT, what are the potential ramifications of doing so legally. First in the UK no power equipment used in a public place accessible to the public must be PAT (Portable appliance test).
This is to ensure that the device is electrically safe. This means use an iPod with any form of power supply for either the iPod itself or the taking of a powered docking station must have PAT. There are many companies making PAT, usually the charge per unit, but most have a minimum fee of around £ 70.00 plus VAT.
The second factor is that if an amplification Additional required, then mean additional equipment hire also added to the total cost. The third factor is that an iPod does not come with any lighting means the rental of lighting effects if you want some. We have now reached the main obstacle. If you are using such equipment should be aware of their safety and service. Why is this? Because you will be subject to be sued if someone has an accident event, and if you do not have knowledge of safety and operating instructions and then can not mount an active defense when the matter to court.
The next point is that to compensate for any possible action for damages you must have PLI (Public Liability). If the place to have it, but it is you who are not responsible for the premises. PLI is expensive to obtain, and if you read smaller print it will require that all electrical items have a valid and current PAT, otherwise the PLI is zero. PLI is a legal requirement. Let's do some simple math here: £ 70.00 £ 150.00 PAT PLI (although you can get cheaper) £ 60.00 Equipment Rental (rental material and must be PAT) Total cost of £ 280.00 following let's take a look at the use of an iPod for musical entertainment.
Has party downloading songs goes well, then a guest wants a particular track, avoiding the music to download as you don 't already have or that I simply can ' t have and risk offending them. This is something you should also consider how much they spend downloading the tracks in the first place. Do not have a system that has 60,000 + Tracks available to play, and you can recruit from certain places. Basically it is a great digital jukebox for lack of a description of costs £ 300.00 average, and it can do requests, but what happens when someone gets a clue that the love that clears the dancefloor. Or someone you love music and becomes offensive to other people at the event. A good quality will cost on average DJ £ 300.00 for the night, some cost more some less, but £ 300.00 is a fair price, unless you have special needs.
A good quality target = "_blank"> DJ also have PLI and all equipment are
PAT , if necessary. A DJ can also play applications, and adapt to different situations, the human being has its advantages. Then there are the times someone wants an application, but you can 't remember the title track and also not sure who recorded it so they try and sing to the DJ in the hope that you know, now you can 't do that to a machine.
When all is said and done to be legal and do it yourself will cost the same or more to get somebody to do it for you. The other advantage is that everything will also establish the computer and take it all down, and no need to return the hired equipment which saves time as well. I hope this has made me think a bit, sometimes it is better to have a professional DIY instead.
