Receiving Help! How to fill the time!?
Because of our religion we can not have alcohol in the wedding reception … would offend the elderly. I'm sure I could go through the standard father and daughter dance, first dance and so on, but how to keep people entertained for the rest of the time? We have a budget creaked and I'm not sure if we can afford to hire a band and DJ. But what is the point of a band / DJ if people can not really "get-down and boogie to it? Any ideas for a church reception it would be fun and not offensive to the elderly, liberal enough for us youngsters, and the wedding worthy? It will last about 3 hours and I do not want people to leave because they are specialists. We have people both religious and nonreligious attend and I really do not want to offend any of the groups. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
We are not serving alcohol at our wedding, either, but we did splurge and arrange for some local bands playing live music for most welcome. a hook, iPod MP3 player, or computer to some speakers large, and put a long playlist and pleasant early. No need to pay a DJ a ridiculous amount of money to sit there and do something that could have done just as well yourself. You can have games to keep everyone busy – doing the limbo in her wedding dress will probably get some good reactions. Click the flower on the groom (a table is not – the groom really!) could be fun. Just think of all the games we used to play in their children's birthday parties, and see if you can take some of the older guests in his childhood days, too. For $ 50 you can probably buy or rent a cheap karaoke machine fill part time and keep your guests entertained. Depending on the size of your reception venue, you may consider splitting into two areas – dance / Area music, and fun and games area. You can then keep the people busy with more bingo, some casino games with Monopoly money, or some the other games, while smaller boogie on the dance floor. You seem very worried about offending people. If your family or culture has some traditional dances some of you know, you can work at the reception, too – complete with traditional garb.
