Vinyl is Back – An Interview With Jeff Loos of reports back

Vinyl is back. From the "error" by an employee of Fred Meyer (where LP was ordered by mistake), major electronics retailer Best Buy vinyl population in certain shops and major recording artists to obtain the release records, the resurgence is upon us.

And at the heart of America, the records are a hot commodity. I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Jeff Loos, owner of decline Records (www.BacktrackRecords.com), located in Lincoln, Nebraska. Reverse Records has been selling vinyl records for over Lincoln 16 years, mostly as an entity online. But "bricks and mortar store is a space occupied, animated quality, vintage LP, with an emphasis especially in the music scene 60.

Let's explore records back to the owner Jeff Loos

We read about the resurgence of discs vinyl, what is your opinion on this 'new love' records?

"First, the records never really left, just remained pushed aside because of all the hype on CD, "explained Jeff." Then discover that the CD is not all that were to be promoted and the price never fell as claimed, in addition to digital sound are binary. "

"The record industry pressure prevented the records during this time unless it was in a much smaller scale. People dishes remain the property price range mid-range has always known that the LP was cleaner than the CD in the sound, if the record was an analogue pressure in which almost all are. "

"We had a retail store for over ten years from 1988-2000 and went to the worldwide web and decided after seven years to re-open the retail store. I'm glad I did because I have previous customer go past and I wonder what they have done for the past seven years and almost everything they say is still spinning his records and we are glad they are back open (that is a dedicated customer.) We have also made many new friends around the world who love the sound of records over CD's. The countries of the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, Netherlands, Spain, Japan, Australia, etc, are pushing and selling vinyl. "

"I am so surprised that almost all my clients know that are analog vinyl records and CDs are digital, as well as they know the difference that is an analog continuous sound wave and CD's are sampled and chopped pieces. This can be achieved much deeper, but do not want to get into that, but you can just Google on "analog vs digital" and give you the exclusive truth. "

"Finally, I can say that most of the major record labels are pushing up and back, not everything is increasingly pressing but many of the great artists. I recently bought the new "doors" box set and it sounds fantastic (what a great job by Bernie Grundman Mastering Engineer, Jac Holzman of Elektra Records founder and producer Bruce Botnick original doors did in this case). The Clapton "Complete" box is large and the "Travel" new version of the Wilbury. Other "Led Zeppelin" box is coming out soon. The general are pushing for a final print, so if any certainly not left out because some of these pressing is worth as much as some of the original. "

What is the sound of vinyl that does it better a CD or indeed any digital format?

"(Vinyl LP's analog audio) is primarily the reason LP sound better than CDs. Everything reduces to a real continuous length of sound waves vs bit digital sound with a little gap between each sample. The system will play your discs is very important and there are quite a few variables that play a role in the sound you hear. Power source, turntable, speakers and more all come into play, it may be very deep and expensive if you want to go for high-end equipment, "said Jeff.

I refer to digital sound as "binary sound, this comparison is a good chance of debate Analog vs. digital sound?

"From what I understand is that if we take a similar pressing and tried to turn from his birth to a team must first go through a conversion to binary numbers so that the computer can read. So I would say yes to its correct to say that the sound is a binary digital sound in bits, "said Jeff.

I imagine that you have accumulated quite a collection, what are some of his personal favorites in your own collection?

"Actually, when I first opened my shop in 1988, I promised myself and the warehouse of the store, which came first. He paid the rent and let me buy more inventory to make a shop better. So really, I personally do not have huge collection myself. I have my favorite bands, such as Rolling Stones, The Doors, The Beatles and Pink Floyd, you get the rock classic idea. "

When was the first race in the world and why follow this minor genre?

"I have a Master degree in the School and could not find a teaching job in the area in the years 1970-1980, so I decided open a record store retail. I've always liked "Dirt Cheap" Lincoln logs, and a friend of mine owned the shop and moved to Omaha and told why Why not open a store in Lincoln and that's what we did. It's a fun job, but still is hard work. thousands of records of cleaning workers take some time and patience. The love of music and the customers are by far the most interesting thing about the job. Always seems to be a challenge to find that rare album that someone or find new vinyl which is under pressure. "

I always tell people about the excitement and adrenaline that I have time "crate digging" What are your thoughts on the collection of registration?

"It is like an Easter egg hunt for me. I am always browsing through record shops while on holiday in search of a rarity, "explained Jeff." I always seem to see something of the 60 or 70 I have not seen in the past. There tons of groups out there that have only one or two albums and a great sound, but only a handful of people know about them and the radio does not play his music. There are so many great bands that refer to another band that goes on forever. Watch the "Traveling Wilbury" and all the bands of the guys played in. "

As for records classification, what methods are used when classifying records you sell?

"The Internet is a difficult place grade the records, because in the store leave the record open for the buyer to inspect. I try to be hard because I hate classifying returns. On the Internet we degree burn and cover as a M-(very clean, looks and sounds like a new disk), VG + + (wear small as possible, but it looks and plays little noise about the new one), VG + (small scratches, possible, but no jumps and plays well) VG (usually end up in my section of $ 1.00 or goodwill). "

Is there any particular genre of music (ie blues, jazz, etc.) that is selling the most in his shop, which is "hot" right now?

"I would say that classic rock is really the best at this time. From the college kids to baby boomers, all seem to be playing this genre. Jazz and blues have their own but I have to go with classic rock, "said Jeff.

How big is your 'line' inventory?

"Our online inventory of approximately 6,000 records, we added a few more, but since we opened the store, I kind of have a little behind on the facts of our inventory. We have a little over 15,000 items in the store. "

What about the sale on eBay, what experiences have you had, good or bad?

"EBay is fine for what they do, but I really do not sell much there. I had some of high-dollar items and moved them on eBay but not actually sell any of the $ 8.00 to $ 15.00 records there. I prefer to sell on our site www.backtrackrecords.com or www.MusicStack.com or www.Gemm.com "said Jeff.

What is the best 'find the record that you have ever been a part of?

"One of the best finds was an original 1958 Buddy Holly" That'll Be The Day "Extended Play the notes on the back cover in near mint condition. I also had a couple of the Beatles "Butcher Cover" second state version. "

Where do you see the vinyl five years from now?

"Five years from now I see the vinyl has its own market," predicted Jeff. "High-end tube equipment seems to come into the scene even more. Audiophile market seems to stand alone. Companies are continually trying to make the analog sound even better. The "doors" box set is a good example. The vinyl of this set actually sounds better than the original documents because they are using the new technology. Life is good when the sound is getting better. Do not forget some people just play music while people listen to music, is a big difference. "

What is the difference between an audiophile record and a "regular record?

"A record mastered audiophile mastering is better equipped plants such as Mobile Fidelity, classic albums, like Speakers Corner, "said Jeff." Many U.S. records will dominate the floor of the house and click on the RTL. The people, who dominate the record, produce and engineer, is very important. Also many companies are going to 180 grams and 200 grams of vinyl claiming a nice big dish makes a difference. Companies are also using virgin vinyl, which also helps. Let's not forget that many of the late 50's and 60's records were taken very seriously when it came to sound. Mercury was the "Mercury Living Presence "series," RCA Living Presence "London blue lomo" and "Columbia SAX Series."

"The good regular records sound in the medium range turntables, high-end equipment and high quality records need to end. You are wasting your hard earned cash if you play a record high-end in a dead shallow dish. "

So there you have it, vinyl records are back and we learned why, a knight hand on the pulse of the resurgence of vinyl. Hopefully the music remains always in question, and if the musicians and record companies really concerned about the sound, the vinyl will live forever.
